Followed the information Microsoft announced last year, you won’t be able to upgrade from Windows 7, or Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 for free anymore. Microsoft released the Windows 10 operating system in July 2015 and allowed all users to take the free upgrade offer until July 2016.
As you know, the free update period is passed, and you might think we are no longer can upgrade for free. However, you are wrong! It seems Microsoft forgot to disable the function or for some other reasons, the free upgrade is still available. The thing is that you can’t upgrade directly from Windows 7, or 8.1. Instead, you will need to visit the Microsoft’s website to download Windows 10 and update manually.
According to the report of Ed Bott, he tried to upgrade his Windows 7 PC to Windows 10 by using the same method above. He discovered the method is still working fine and all of us can use to upgrade from older version of Windows OS to the latest one although Microsoft confirmed that the free upgrade period is expired.
Microsoft hasn’t commented on this case yet, and it seems the company still left a door for us to take the update in case of missing the previous period. Alongside this solution, many other users who are using Assistive Technologies are also able to upgrade from Windows 7, 8 or 8.1 to Windows 10 for free as well.
Officially, Microsoft confirmed that users who are using these technologies and devices are still able to do so without any limitations. The company also confirmed they would stop to support “Assistive Technologies” from taking free update in the future, but hasn’t unleashed the time yet.
So, would you take this free upgrade? Or spending to purchase a new license of Windows 10?
What would you do?
